Detroit Electric
Detroit Electric was an American icon in the early part of the 1900s. The brand represented the most popular electric car in history and the longest running electric car company, which operated between 1907 and 1939 by the Anderson Electric Car Company in Detroit Michigan. At the time, the car was very popular, with customers like Thomas Edison, Charles Proteus Steinmetz, Henry Ford’s Wife Clara, and John D. Rockefeller, Jr.
One hundred years ago Detroit Electric had a car that could go 211 miles on a charge. With today’s technology we should be able to go far beyond that.
On February 7th, 2008,.. in a joint announcement, US electric car pioneer ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) and China Youngman Automotive Group announced they are reviving the 100-year-old electric car brand Detroit Electric for their automotive joint venture. Detroit Electric officials look forward to bringing new vehicle technologies to market by 2009 and beyond that the possibility of bringing new manufacturing and green collar jobs to California> (Where was the BIG 3 on this opportunity?!?)

The ZAP Alias electric two seater charges from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Its two in-wheel motors produce 320 horsepower and it goes a top speed of 156 mph. That’s about as fast as a Porsche 911 Carerra + it’s half the price @ $32,500. Oh and it has a range of more than 100 miles before it needs to be recharged. Check out the Alias and other models @ ZAP World.
Wow! After 100years we’re finally going to see some electric vehicles on the road. In elementary school I thought I’d be flying by now.
Makes you wonder why the electric car ever went away in the first place?…. Here’s my guess
