The Power of Green Housing
At the last months (likemind) Detroit,.. I invited Leslie C Horn, CEO and co-founder of The Power of Green HousingTM out to tell to us about her 17 unit Container/Condo project being built in Detroit this fall, as well as what we can expect to see in the future.
First off who are you and what do you do?
Leslie Horn, CEO & President and Patric Horn, COO & Project Manager of The Power of Green HousingSM … we are a brother and sister team. Leslie lives in Detroit full time and brother Patric resides in San Diego commuting to Detroit approximately 2 weeks a month. We have rehabbed over 20 houses in the city of Detroit over last 2 year. The Power of Green HousingSM is dedicated to building affordable houses with a savings of 60% energy costs to the end user. We are currently developing Exceptional Green Living on Rosa Parks, a 17 unit condo complex consisting of 1, 2 & 3 bedroom units near Wayne State University and able to build for less than $100/sq foot. After this “prototype” we will take our building into a warehouse and manufacture this type of building lowering our costs by an additional 20-25%.
In addition to the two of us, we continue to build our team of architects, builders, media and marketing professionals, attorneys and associates to promote and propel this company in becoming the leader in green, sustainable and energy efficient housing.

One of the best commercials I’ve seen during this year’s Olympics.
*All together an estimated $6 billion dollars will be spent on advertising during the Olympics (*all companies)
KOR ONE Hydration Vessel
I Love this! KOR ONE >
What started as one man’s attempt to find a decent reusable water bottle has blossomed into one of the sexiest industrial designs of the year. Taking a few visual cues from bottled water packaging Kor ups the ante with a handful of intelligent design choices. Foremost, the vessel (which starts shipping next month and retails for $30) features a hinged snap-cap that allows one to open and drink with a single hand. Unlike typical Sigg bottles (our former vessel of choice), the Kor One has a wide mouth that can accommodate ice cubes and deliver more water on demand. Lastly, consider the bottle’s ovular shape. When viewed from the front, it reminds of an old thermos; only from the side or the top can you see that the vessel has been pinched to provide an easier hand grip. Brilliant.

The Art of Nagging > Brooklyn Brothers
Guy Barnett and Stephen Rutterford of Brooklyn Brothers sat down with Behance to talk about their creative enterprise and the different approach they take toward making stuff happen. One of my favorites is their approach on nagging >
Their secret to actually pushing projects forward can be summed up with one word: “nagging.” Guy explains, “we repeat stuff like robots a thousand times…a best practice for us is to use nagging tempered by humor, we sit around a table and feel responsible to each other.” He goes as far to admit, “if you’re annoying, people will do things because they’ll want you to shut up!” How true!
Visit Brooklyn Brothers to check out all the projects they have been involved in. And if you have a sweet tooth,.. grab a piece of their Fat Pig Chocolate.
In the meantime I’m going to nagg and annoy some people i’m trying to get a hold of.
TOMS @ Tribeca Film Festival
TOMS shoes made it’s way into the Tribeca Film Festival a couple of weeks ago with their documentary entitled For Tomorrow. Blake Mycoskie (founder) brought along a camera (& director Ken Kokin) for their first Shoe Drop in Argentina.
“…It was such an amazing week that we felt inspired to create a film and share it. The film came out better than we could have ever imagined, and we were thrilled and humbled to be accepted at one of the top film festivals in the world.
The best part of this is that so many new people will learn about TOMS and our One for One giving philosophy. This is going to put shoes on a lot of kids feet!
In keeping with the One for One model, TOMS will donate a pair of shoes to a child in need for every copy of the film sold. You can pre-order your copy HERE.

Bentley Jet Concept

The Bentley Jet Concept is a collaboration between Bentley Motors and designer Sami Hayek. The creation is the result of a six-month long effort.

ECHOage = Best B-day Present
Another brilliant idea spotted over @ SpringWise >
ECHOage is a company started by two mothers who wanted to put an end to wasteful birthday parties (mediocre gifts, wrapping paper, etc.) Traditionally everyone comes over and brings your child a cheap toy that he/she will most likely play with for a day and then toss. ECHOage puts a brilliant stop to the *wasteful* b-day party. See how it works after the jump >

Detroit Electric
Detroit Electric was an American icon in the early part of the 1900s. The brand represented the most popular electric car in history and the longest running electric car company, which operated between 1907 and 1939 by the Anderson Electric Car Company in Detroit Michigan. At the time, the car was very popular, with customers like Thomas Edison, Charles Proteus Steinmetz, Henry Ford’s Wife Clara, and John D. Rockefeller, Jr.
One hundred years ago Detroit Electric had a car that could go 211 miles on a charge. With today’s technology we should be able to go far beyond that.
