Bamboo Chute Phone

chute1.jpeg
Check out Michael Laut’s Chute Phone >

One of the most eco-friendly materials on the market right now is bamboo which comes from shoots and is the fastest growing wood known. Laut used the sustainable plant to create the cell phone he called Chute, aptly named after shoots of the plant.

In the age of “Disposable Technology” where new mobile phone models come out every couple of months,.. it’s nice to see a model not made out of cheap plastic. I hope we’ll see more phones like the Chute in the future.

LOGAN REAL

Last time I wrote about Logan Real it was about his RED Collection. (click RED for memories) Back then I was blown away by the simplicity and detail of his custom design work.

So it should come as no surprise that one of his most recent creations is equally as stunning >

bombay.jpeg

Spotted @ Trendhunter >

Karim Rashid designed five elegant bottles in the shape of enormous jewels for the Bombay Sapphire Revelation Collection. Gerrard designed the diamond and sapphire caps, Baccarat is the crystal, and the drink inside is Bombay Sapphire gin. Each bottle is priced at $200,000, making the entire collection worth $1 million.

Near the end of March 2008, each jeweled crystal bottle will be prominently displayed at a New York, London, Dubai, and Singapore airport. The purchaser will also receive a year’s supply of Bombay Sapphire gin. Proceeds will benefit The Smile Train charity.

Karim Rashid

karim.jpgA couple of months ago I went and saw Karim Rashid speak here in Detroit. It was part of the Toyota Lecture series presented by CCS & CLEAR Magazine. Karim is by far one of the best speakers I have personally seen. The man does it all,.. from hotels, products, fashion, furniture, art, lighting, packaging, media, etc. (he even DJ’s) I was so focused on everything he was saying that day I unfortunately didn’t take any notes :  (  All I know is I left really inspired, enlightened and thinking that Karim is definitely from the future!  I recommend you go to Karims site and see all of the amazing work he has done. Also check out the Events section to see if he’ll be speaking in an area near you. If he is,.. do yourself a favor and GO!
