(likemind) X New York Times
(likemind) made the New York Times Style section last friday! Me and Eric Cedo have been running (likemind) here in Detroit for about a year and half now. Detroit is just one of the 55+ cities around the world that meet every third friday of the month for coffee + conversation. We like to think of (likemind) as a anti-networking event. Don’t get us wrong,. you still meet new + interesting people. There’s just something about meeting early in the morning that makes it feel less like ”networking” event and more like hanging out with good friends. Read excerpt from article >
Likemind caters to young professionals in advertising, media and design who are products of the age of personal blogs, warts-and-all YouTube videos and viral marketing. For them, the best pitch is the disguised pitch. Nothing, participants said, is more uncool than the hard-sell of traditional networking (which may explain why likemind is not capitalized).
So if you like meeting new people,.. but hate going to networking events,.. then I really suggest you come hang out with us @ (likemind)Detroit + bring a friend, or two, or three. The next (likemind) is December 5th (the last one for 2008) We’re having it @ a new location this time (Mercury Bar) Me + Eric will be there around 8.30am. Feel free to come anytime though. We will be grabbing lunch @ Slow’s BBQ around noon.
If you need more info or have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me > nev [at] idunited [dot] com

Social Media Panel @ PSFK NY ‘08
I unfortunately couldn’t make it out to NY for the PSFK conference in March. The good news is that they just posted video of the panel on Social Media (the one I wanted to check out the most). In a ‘new guns’ versus ‘marketing gurus’ debate, Josh Spear (Undercurrent) & Noah Brier (Likemind) join Marc Schiller (Electic artists) & Steve Rubel (Edelman) to debate how social media will change in 2008 and how companies can leverage this digital phenomenon in the most rewarding way. The panel is moderated by Noelle Weaver (SS+K).
Watch Josh put Steve on the spot about the whole Wal-Mart/Fake blog fiasco. Pretty classic.

TAP Project 2008
The TAP Project is a remarkably simple way to raise money and awareness for the Worlds Water Crisis.
Beginning Sunday, March 16 through Saturday, March 22, restaurants will invite their customers to donate a minimum of $1 for the tap water they would normally get for free. For every dollar raised, one child will have clean drinking water for 40 days. Or 40 children for one day.
TED 2008

Now in its 24th year, TED begins on Wednesday and runs through Saturday. It is an elite event where leaders in technology, entertainment and design gather to cross-pollinate ideas and gain inspiration from presentations on the latest developments in sciences and the arts. As always TED is looking better than ever. Some of the BIG questions that will be asked this year are:
Who are we? What is our place in the universe? What is life? Is beauty truth? Will evil prevail? How can we change the world? How do we create? What’s out there? What will tomorrow bring? What stirs us? How dare we be optimistic? And the point?
Those are definitely some deep questions. TED, which has long been an elite gathering, opened up to a much wider audience after it began posting video of its talks on its website in 2006. According to conference organizers, 200 talks from past TED gatherings have been posted so far and have been viewed around 30 million times. So luckily for us we’ll be able to see this year’s conference once they upload the videos. In the meantime,… go check out some of past presentations here.

(RED) Auction = $42.6million
There was a lot of LOVE in the air yesterday, especially for the (RED) auction. How much LOVE?…
An auction at Sotheby’s organized by rocker-activist Bono and artist Damien Hirst raised $42.6 million Thursday night to fight AIDS in Africa.
In kicking off the Valentine’s Day sale, to which over 60 top contemporary artists donated museum-quality work, Bono led the crowd in a sing-along of the Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love.”
Bono said he was pleased by the results of the auction, which far exceeded the expected proceeds of $28 million and pushed his charity’s total take to the $100 million mark.
“It is a historic night for artists, an extraordinary night in New York City. I am very moved.”
LOVE was definitely in the air and in some Wallets!

Beijing Olympics “Water Cube”
The upcoming Olympics’ Aquatic Center, commonly referred to as the Water Cube for its translucent, bubbly design, had its long awaited opening last week for tourists and early testing of the pools. Looks pretty sweet.
